Church History

It all started when a certain Mr. Lewis, who happened to be a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) member from Nigeria, had a baby. He and a good friend, Mr. Akeredolu (Baba Alfred), invited Pa Esubiyi to come and christen the baby. As a CCC Evangelist, Pa Esubiyi, told them the only way he knew is the Celestial way and he directed them to buy fruits and other materials needed for the christening ceremony. Everybody present liked the way the christening service was done.

Then one Mrs. Ali was terribly ill and the family contemplated taking her to Nigeria.  Someone advised the family to request the presence of Pa Esubiyi to come and pray for her. Being a humble person; he decided to come and pray for the woman. He came along with incense burner, a power cloth and Miss Paris Perfume. After praying for the woman, she was miraculously healed. Mrs. Ali and her family were so grateful to God for the miracle. She was able to walk and perform her daily routine once again. Encouraged by the visitation of the power of God and the other events they had witnessed, many people persuaded Pa Esubiyi to establish a Celestial Church of Christ here in Chicago.

Prior to this time, Pa Esubiyi had written a letter to Pastor founder SBJ Oshoffa informing him about their intention to establish CCC in USA and they received a reply that they should go ahead with the establishment of the church. Pa Esubiyi was also a Ph.D candidate in a University in Iowa, so he knew leading a church would be a difficult task. However, after much persuasion he agreed. The people that came to Mr. Lewis naming ceremony and those that witness the miraculous healing of   Mrs. Ali (who later registered the church with state government in 1974) started congregating for fellowship and Mrs. Ali later registered the church with the state government in 1974. The following individuals form the foundation of the church in USA, Mr. Akeredolu (Late), Mrs. Ali, Mr&Mrs. Alabi, Adesegun Ogunsanya,   Mr. Akinbiyi, Issac Bro. Oyewopo,  Bro,Issac Ajayi, Bro.Dele Odumuyiwa, Sister Elizabeth Odumuyiwa, Mr&Mrs Oludiran, Mr&mrs Musa, Mrs Omodara, Mr&Mrs Ishmeal and Sister Iyabo Adamson.

Since then Chicago One has grown and even birthed other parishes. With the mission to proclaim the Good News to the world, heal the brokenhearted, and restore hope to the hopeless in the Name of Jesus, Chicago One Parish is currently located in Calumet City with Superior Salako as its Shephard In Charge. In conjunction with the mission, our parish has made it a priority to serve the community where we reside. Since March 2013, we have been a Greater Chicago Food Depository Agent and have been helping countless families and individuals with a food pantry. Additionally, as a member of the body of Christ, we undertake many holy and religious activities. We also organize many religious and family oriented events throughout the year. We work for the betterment of the people and for God.
